luxury car rental cairns

If you’ve treated yourself to a luxury car hire in Cairns, you want to make the most of it! Just imagine yourself cruising along our coastal roads or up into the rainforest in a fabulous Mustang R-SPEC, Porsche 718 Boxster or Mercedes- Benz E300 Cabriolet. Drop the top, hit the pedal and away you go!

Even though the drive itself can be exhilarating, it’s always good to have a destination in mind when you hit the road. So what about exploring our stunning waterfalls? In Part 1, we checked out the Crystal Cascades, Barron Falls, Waterfall Circuit (Milla Milla Falls, Zillie Falls and Elinjaa Falls) as well as Malanda Falls, but there’s more!

So pile everyone into your prestigious car rental cairns, head south from Cairns car hire along the Bruce HWY and let’s check out even more spectacular waterfalls in far north Queensland.

Babinda Boulders

If you follow the Bruce HWY south from Cairns car hire for an hour in your luxury car hire cairns, you’ll reach Babinda on the left side of the highway. Drive through the town along Munro Street and then follow The Boulders Rd for a few kilometres until you come to Babinda Boulders in the foothills of Bartle Frere, Queensland’s highest mountain.

To be honest, Babinda Boulders doesn’t have a waterfall (more on that below), but it’s definitely worth a visit. What you’ll find here is a wide, shallow creek lined by huge boulders resulting in lots of perfect spots for swimming. Surrounded by lush rainforest, Babinda Boulders is popular with the locals who cool down on a hot summer’s day in its crystal clear waters.

Close to Babinda Boulders is the Devil’s Pool which does have waterfalls! To reach these falls you need to follow a walking track through the rainforest from the Boulders where you’ll find two viewing platforms. It’s here you can see that the creek actually cascades down a series of spectacular waterfalls – the perfect spot for a few photographs. On your way through Babinda, why not park your luxury car hire cairns at the Bakery on Munroe Street and pick up some scrumptious supplies for an impromptu picknick at Babinda Boulders?

Josephine Falls

From the Boulders, head back onto the Bruce HWY in your car rental cairns and drive south for another 20 minutes, keeping an eye open for the turn to Wooroonooran. Follow the Bartle Frere Road for about 5 minutes, keep right as it turns into Price Road and then another right into Josephine Falls Road. You will quickly see the signs for Josephine Falls and there’s a good size carpark where you can leave your car rental car.

Located in Wooroonooran National Park, Josephine Falls is in the lower part of Josephine Creek that flows from Bartle Frere. The waterfalls are a spectacular sight, cascading down into a beautiful swimming hole filled with crystal clear water and massive granite boulders. There’s also a sandy beach where you can relax and enjoy the gentle breezes rustling through the surrounding rainforest. Don’t forget to follow the walking track that leads to up to viewing decks over the falls and rainforest for a quick photograph because Josephine Falls is an idyllic spot that will take your breath away!

Mena Creek Falls

Your next stop is the Mena Creek Falls in Germantown, south of Innisfail. It’s a 40 minute trip in your cairns luxury car hire from Josephine Falls to Mena Creek Falls, but you can stop at the Mena Creek Hotel (on the corner of Japoonvale Road and Mena Creek Road) for lunch on the way. This traditional Queenslander-style country pub with breezy balconies serves great food and also offers accommodation if you want an overnight stay (Paronella Park is just up the road).

Just 19 kilometres from Innisfail, Mena Creek Falls is a single waterfall that plunges 7 metres into a vast rainforest pool inhabited by a resident crocodile. Needless to say, no-one swims in this pool, but it’s great for photographs!

When you arrive at the carpark, just follow the walking path which brings you to the base of the waterfall. You can also get a wonderful view of the waterfalls from the suspension bridge that spans the falls taking you to Paronella Park (you can access this bridge without going into Paronella Park).

Clamshell Falls & Whites Falls

On your way back to Cairns car hire in your cairns car rental and just before you reach Gordonvale, you’ll find Clamshell Falls and Whites Falls. It’s just over a 60 minute drive along the Bruce HWY when you’re heading north, but both of these falls are in Behana Gorge, so you need to keep a look out for Behana Gorge Road. At this point you can park your car and head off on a 6 kilometre hiking track to reach Clamshell Falls.

There’s plenty of opportunities for a swim in the creek along the way and before you reach the cascading waterfalls where there’s a large pool that’s perfect for a cooling dip. If you’re still game for another hike then you can continue on to Whites Falls, which are actually above Clamshell Falls with signs to point the way.
