Get ready for a day trip that includes coastal cruising on the Great Barrier Reef Drive. Leave Cairns and elegantly ease through the Northern Beaches roundabouts, before making your way to Port Douglas for a tantalising lunch.
With the azure waters of the Coral Sea on one side and the grandiose, majestic mountains of the Great Diving Range on the other, it’s a spectacular spot to put the top down.
On the way back, stop and leave your mark at the Cairns balancing rock beach. A wondrously eye-catching, memorable Mustang, Porsche or Mercedes day trip to and from Cairns.
For a 2-day / 1-night Far North Queensland adventure, head to Port Douglas as mentioned above. Check into your resort-style apartment for the evening, drop your luggage and head a little further north to immerse yourselves in the beauty of Mossman Gorge & the Cultural Centre.
When back in the village, take a stroll to one of the many incredible Port Douglas restaurants for dinner. The next day, revel in the sublime and picturesque FNQ environment as you head to the Atherton Tablelands via Julatten and Mount Molloy. Through Mareeba and into Kuranda to perhaps see the Pamagirri Dancers at Rainforestation, and enjoy the afternoon in the quaint and quirky town. Don’t miss the mighty {after green season} Barron Falls and cruise down the range back to Cairns.
Want to take your ride up through our breathtaking mountains? Here’s our top day tour itinerary for heading west of Cairns. Cruise the Kuranda Range and let your luxury self-drive hire car guide you rhythmically to the top and onto the Tablelands. There are lots of whimsical country villages and extraordinary national parks to explore.
Why not have lunch at Gallo Dairyland, it’s country cooking at its best. They’ve also got locally made cheese and chocolate, take home a souvenir, they’re absolutely delicious. Journey to the magnificent and ancient Curtin Fig Tree near Yungaburra for more photo opportunities. For the next and final stop, jump out at Lake Eacham Crater Lake for a swim in the pristine fresh water and to spot the turtles. Then make your way back, down the Gillies range as your luxury car hire manoeuvres the bends with poetic charisma.
Definitely worth making time for is this inspiring 2-day / 1-night Tablelands itinerary, it gets you seeing some of THE best bits. Head up the Kuranda Range and stop to breathe in the captivating and mighty Barron Falls. For a tasty, filling lunch, try the Tolga Pub and experience a refurbished outback pub. Book into the beautiful Rose Gums Wilderness Retreat for the night, these inspiring tree-top cabins will put you right in the middle of our entrancing nature of the far north and striking rainforest trees.
After the best night's sleep, you’ll be immersed in our local environment, day 2 is best spent exploring the Southern Tablelands. This is a place of rolling green hills, glorious waterfalls and awe-inspiring lookouts. Must see and do: Millaa Millaa Lookout and Waterfall and lunch at Mungalli Dairy. Make it a leisurely drive back down the Palmerston Range and back to Cairns, with the sun over the mountains and in the rearview mirror.
